As with all things not everything suits everyone and sometimes image rules over function... but what you have to remember is Meraklon (polyolefin) which is in the polypropylene family of fibres just does not hold the moisture that other materials do and allows the moisture to escape through its fibres.
Thus your system base,mid and outerlayers can work correctly.
Wool (of any variety) does hold moisture and is great as a temperature regulator, but will not perform as a thermal in a winter application efficently as polypropylene (meraklon).
